- 序數指依順序排列的數。
- 寫法：
- 1、不規則變化 one → first；two → second；three → third。
- 2、four ~ nineteen 原則上是基數 ＋ th：fourth ~ nineteenth。
- 但有幾個數字的變化稍有不同：five → fifth；eight → eighth； nine → ninth；twelve → twelfth。
- 3、twenty... 等字尾為 -ty 的數字，則去 y ＋ ieth：twenty → twentieth；fifty → fiftieth。
- 4、twenty-one 以上的數字則在個位數作變化：twenty-three → twenty-third。
- 5、hundred、thousand、million... 等直接 ＋ th：hundred → hundredth。
- 用法：
- 1、序數在使用時，通常前面須有 the 或所有格，如：
- Mother’s Day is on the second Sunday of May. （母親節是在五月的第二個星期天。）
- 2、作為「副詞」用時，則不加 the ／ 所有格，如：
- Who comes first?（誰先來？）
- 3、須以序數表示的用詞：日期當中的「日」須以序數表示，如：
- My birthday is on December twenty-third.（我的生日在十二月二十三日。）
